I spy with my little eye... the Art of Suspenders.

The season of races is beginning in Dubai, the weather is perfect, everybody's out all the time, it's that time of the year. The time when all outfits are possible. If you've been following HOB, you know I like a vintage twist. I have a thing for bow ties, coloured pants and suspenders. That being said, very few people know how to wear suspenders. It would sound obvious but the first rule is that the trousers shouldn't have belt loops. I love this Henry Fonda quote in "Once upon a time in the West" (1968): "How can you trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders? The man can't even trust his own pants". Second rule, the trousers should be high waisted, which is a real challenge nowadays. I hate to say it but I have seen more butts than I bargained for in the last 10 years. Third rule is that suspenders should work with buttons, not clips (too easy!). If you are a purist, the leather should match the leather of your shoes, and last but not least, they should be considered as undergarments and shouldn't be visible. They should be hidden under a jacket. Oh, and of course patterns are absolutely forbidden. Knowing all of that, I am now looking forward to the next pair of suspenders that will cross my path. Gentlemen, it's your time to shine.
