I spy with my little eye... a Coffee with trendy stylist Ushi.

I met Ushi Sato from The Shades and Scarf on a photoshoot. His kindness and open-mindedness instantly won me over: he had his very own style, was very confident about it, but he was also kind and caring. More than happy to help everybody with their own styling: you could feel the passion for his vocation as a stylist. Ushi is bubbly, full of stories, creative, he adapts to every situation as long as you give him a piece of fabric to play with. He styles, he photographs, he creates, he writes, he is full of inspiration. You are most likely to find him hidden behind funky shades and running from one photoshoot to an other.

HOB:  If you could live in a painting, which one would it be?
U.S.: Van Gogh's Starry Night, it's nonchalantly dreamy.

HOB: If you could live in a different era, which one would you pick and why?
U.S.: I would love to live during the Baroque/Rococo Era, around 1600-1800. It was the period of artistic style that used exaggerated and clear motion, easily interpreted details of grandeur. Can you imagine living in a most laborious moment with everything fabulously detailed around you, from clothing to furniture, house etc. It's just fabulous!

HOB: What piece of clothing reminds you of your mother/father?
U.S.:  Printed kaftan which my mom used to wear in the house and distress denim which my dad loves to wear everyday.

HOB: What scent takes you right back to your childhood?
U.S.: The smell of citrus leaves. It makes me feel homesick. It reminds me of the time when I was around 6 or 7, when I used to hang out in my neighbours citrus backyard.

HOB: When do you feel on holidays?
U.S.: I feel the holidays when it rains. In my country, when it rains it's so bad the schools close and we're only asked to come back when the week long rainy situation stops. That was the time when my big sister wouldn't allow me to go out and we would just stay at home, reading books or I would play paper dolls. I make good beautiful paper dolls!

HOB: What designer would you take with you on a camel ride?
U.S.:  Camels walk soooo slowly and are lil bit shaky-wavy, so I'd like to be with Tom Ford. It's kinda sexy situation to be with him for a long slow-shaky ride. I think we could chat about a lot of things and all you know, plus I could smell him for sooooo long. I think he's smells good.

HOB: Your favourite recipe to make?
U.S.: I love frying eggplant with mayo-honey dip. It's a good diet!

HOB: Best piece of advice you were ever given?
U.S.:  I remember what my sister told me when I was lil: we were seating on a huge stone doing our laundry via hand washing, she said I should be good in everything I do and want to do. I should be good in class, I should be good to the people around, I should dress well. Like that, everything that I would receive would be good. Simple but true.

HOB: What book changed your life?
U.S.: I'm not really into books, but I'm buying books for display purposes. I remember I loved reading Biblical stories when I was lil.

HOB: The movie you've watched already 30 times but might watch again tonight?
U.S.: Bangkok Love Story, it's an Asian film. It's sssoooooooooooo tragic and beautifully made movie. The love story is amazing and it makes me cry all the time. Whenever I have friend who's visiting me at home, I always introduce them to this movie. And they ended up loving the film. I've watched it more than 50 times. I swear!

HOB: Three favourite spots in Dubai?
U.S.: Break Water Wall on the Palm, DIFC The Gate, and the Beach.
